Rootabega Stories

When I was a child my grandfather sent me a copy of Carl Sandburg’s Rootabega Stories. The illustrations were amazing and the stories my mother read to me were the strangest I had ever heard. I loved them.

This fall Isabel will be honored at the Chicago Public Library Foundation’s annual Carl Sandburg Literary Awards ceremony. The event will be held October 23 at The Forum in Chicago.  Also being honored that evening are Michael Lewis (MoneyballThe Blind Side) and Christine Sneed (Little Known Facts.) The Carl Sandburg Literary Award honors authors whose bodies of work have enhanced the public’s awareness of the written word.

The awards are presented by the Chicago Public Library Foundation. Proceeds from the annual Carl Sandburg Literary Awards dinner support innovative and life-enriching programs at the Chicago Public Library.

It promises to be a lovely evening. Isabel is already smitten with the city of Chicago, so it will be nice for her to see it in autumn. She really should take one of those boat rides—so fun!
