We have been busy visiting some of our favorite grantees this summer, with more to see this fall. (I’ll give a little shout-out as we go along.) First up, Lori and I visited the Novato Youth Center, just north of us, and were once again thrilled with the work they do. It’s an organization we love, and Isabel’s foundation helps fund this comprehensive program for teens and youth.
Novato Youth is the only school-linked health center in Novato. It has provided low- and no-cost health services for teens, adults and families since opening in 2006. Services are confidential and offered in English and Spanish, and staff is LGBT knowledgeable and experienced. It also offers an awesome Jenga game that is “test your sexual health knowledge Jenga.” I tried to make off with it in my backpack but stealing is wrong, so in the end I left it there.
Here is a photo of current Novato Youth peer educators holding up copies of Maya’s Notebook. Find out more about the group by following this link, and check out the Isabel Allende Foundation website, too, for more information.
PS. Watch this little video if you want to learn even more about the group’s work in Novato.
