The Booklist

I asked Isabel for a few recent reads and here is what she said:

The Dog Stars by Peter Heller—loved it. It is like The Road but more optimistic and with a less depressing ending.

The Lover by Marguerite Duras—I read it a long time ago. Recently I rented the movie with the same title; it is stunning.

Dear Life—short stories by Alice Munro.

A Hologram for the King by Dave Eggers—Wonderful, as everything he writes is, and I also love the actual book itself. It’s a handsome book that looks like an old leather-bound edition.

Riña de Gatos (Spanish) by Eduardo Mendoza, a writer I like very much.

I am interested in the experience of the 120,000 Japanese, one third of them American citizens, who were placed in concentration camps during the Second World War, following the attack on Pearl Harbor, so I also read these:

The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka

Silver Like Dust by Kimi Cunningham Grant

Snow Falling On Cedars by David Guterson

This post is also available in: Spanish

There is a great book called “No-No Boy” that deals with Japanese Americans during WWII
